22年目の告白―私が殺人犯です (MEMOIRS OF A MURDERER)

Watchable. While based on the 2012 "내가 살인범이다" ("Confession of Murder"), it gets a more modern twist. In August 2017 Chinese crime writer Liu Yongbiao was arrested as a suspect of a quadruple murder committed in 1995. Hence the 2017 Japanese remake places the series of murders in 1995 and the book release 22 years later. Unfortunately no other details from the real case are used and the remake is full of quick takes and chaos. Like many Japanese productions, it's far-fetched, over the top, with exaggerated acting. The twists of action retained from the Korean original fail to impress even if you haven't seen the first version. A number of situations are hilarious, e.g. when the captured murderer hears of the statute of limitations discussed by the guys who had stalked him the captive asks "Sore wa doshita?" ("So what?"). I'm not sure though if that was always the director's intention. Hot act Tatsuya Fujiwara as Sonezaki is the main attraction.
