UKRAINA! FILM FESTIVAL ONLINE

The very last movie:

ЗАБУТІ (THE FORGOTTEN)

Watchable. Disturbing, especially for women. But all the more realistic for it. Each flawed character in this story embodies a facet of master or servant in a society under occupation. It's going on in present day Europe, the forgotten "Lugansk Republic" in the disputed Donbass region. People who can only either suck up to the occupiers - who won't be loyal to the occupied, or try to survive under occupation - keeping nationality but losing dignity, or migrate to another city in Ukraine - where they'll be discriminated against by fellow countrymen. An engaging love tale makes for the main storyline. If you're not familiar with the situation and the forgotten region, it's also factually difficult to make out what's going on in the plot. Poor night lighting makes it hard at times to distinguish who and what.

Seen on mojeekino.pl, it stuttered and slowed down so badly, the whole thing took half an hour longer than its running time. The sound was fine. I'm happy the platform got it right. But the screenings constantly slow down absurdly.
