SPIRIT UNTAMED
Recommended. A beautiful tale filled with love of animals, caring families, friendly people, well, apart from the gang of villains. As for the teenage protagonists, I'd love to have such girlfriends. Now, regarding the plot.. what a tear-jerker! The fate of the horses is so moving I was sobbing throughout the film. Luckily (accidental pun) there are a handful of funny bits, especially the aunt's mastery at oar-fighting is hilarious. Visually, hair shades changing in various lighting, grass and trees looking like a blend of real greenery with animation and warm colours make this picture just cute. Julianne Moore and Jake Gyllenhaal voice the aunt and the father in the original. In Poland, however, it's only dubbed in Polish, with songs in Spanish, English and Polish.
EXTINCT
Watchable. This Chinese/American animated tale is engaging and the framework ingenious, though the plot silly in the beginning - the flummels' exploits are ridiculous, the main twist with the dog is out of the blue, historical facts are in turns informative in an entertaining way or distorted for no reason, and the film's unevenly paced - a number of times the story accelerates abruptly, also the location shifts are too harsh. Recorded in Atmos, pointlessly, the sound doesn't stand out. Ken Jeong voices the dog. In Poland, however, it's only dubbed in Polish. At least Bartek Fukiet's translation has given us wonderful dialogues, with lots of rhymes and puns. There's an early mid-credit.
